iPACT webinar 8 – Port City Adaptation to climate change
This iPACT webinar will be hosted by two researchers from University of East Anglia and University of Southampton.
Dr Katie Jenkins, Tyndall Centre Research Lecturer
Title: “Climate change adaptation in the port industry“
Evaluating evidence of incremental versus transformational adaptation using a national Adaptation Inventory
Katie has over ten years’ experience working on various multidisciplinary projects with a focus on the integrated assessment of climate risks, social and economic impacts, and adaptation strategies. Key aspects include developing a range of methodologies and modelling tools to assess social and direct and indirect economic impacts of climate change, including impacts related to extreme weather such as drought, high temperatures and flooding, as well as the role of adaptation strategies to reduce risks and enhance resilience
Dr Toby Roberts, University of Southampton
Title: “Implementing Sustainable Development in Port-cities.”
Synopsis: Port-cities are at the epicentre of many of the key issues and processes of modern times, such as globalisation, urbanisation and development. They provide considerable benefits, whilst producing negative impacts such as pollution and traffic congestion. Sustainable development in port-cities is therefore of great importance if a transition to a sustainable world is to be achieved. This is often made more challenging by competing port and city stakeholders and a lack of cooperation. This work highlights 5 areas of priority that enjoy support from both port and city authorities globally, and may provide areas suitable for mutually beneficial cooperation.
