Felted Rockpools

These felted rockpools have been designed by Keith Torrance and textile artist Shirley Torrance.

Prototypes were produced by participants to a wet felting workshop that Shirley ran in November 2023 at Lancaster University.

The rockpools were then taken to the University of Strathclyde where they were treated with MiCP. In December, the calcified rockpools were then installed on a sea wall by Inellan beach.

Unfortunately, the felted rockpools did not survive storm Isha (January 2024) – one of the strongest storms to hit the beach in recent year, causing significantly stronger than normal waves.
